4 stars. The Walk Up Nameless Ridge is a lingering, stark tale of hubris, exploration, and celebrity. Hugh Howey displays such incredible grasp of human character as his fame-obsessed mountaineer risks life and limb to be the first among all competitors to climb the highest peak of an alien world. Along the way, he discovers that the price he must pay for glory may cost far more than he was prepared to pay. Howey’s keen insight into the world of mountaineering extrapolates to the human quest for success and fame. While only a very very short read, The Walk Up Nameless Ridge isn’t one I’m going to forget quickly.
